SAY HELLO TO PERTH’S NEWEST FOOTBALL CLUB, ALKIMOS FC Alkimos FC is a brand-new community-focussed soccer club established to meet growing demand for the beautiful game in Perth’s far northern suburbs. Dedicated to nurturing local footballing talent and enriching the local community, we are eagerly anticipating our inaugural 2021 season. The progress the club has made would not have been possible without the support of the community. Many local businesses have come forward with sponsorship offers, with Solarwave WA @solarwavewa signed as the club’s first sponsor and The Landing Tavern. Fundraising events are due over the coming months to finance the launch of Perth’s newest football club. The Club have begun to deliver programs in the community with over 50 kids taking part at their after- school training at Alkimos Primary School. The Club are also hosting weekly social kickabouts at St James Anglican each Sunday at 9:30am. Over 40 senior players have already taken part. Alkimos FC are incredibly excited about the year ahead and cannot wait to get started. While the formation of the club hasn’t been easy, the support of the community has provided the momentum to continue and look forward to repaying your faith when they kick off in March 2021! The club are actively looking for players to fill their teams. If anyone would like to get involved in the club as a player, coach, physio, club sponsor or committee member please get in touch on Facebook @alkimosfootballclub or via email info@alkimosfc.com.au ARE YOU BUSHFIRE READY? Last Summer, Australia experienced catastrophic bushfires with one very close to home in Yanchep, proving that preparation is the key to survival. There are simple steps you can take like clearing gutters, reducing vegetation around the home and ensuring there is adequate access to your property. It’s also important that you complete your Bushfire Survival Plan so you and your loved ones are prepared if bushfires strike. The City has launched the Prepare Together project to support residents with their bushfire ready and emergency preparedness activities. This project ultimately aims to reduce impacts and save lives should a bushfire, storm or other major emergency occur. Kardan Construction, collaborating with disability enterprises Intelife and Workpower, won the three-year facility maintenance contract at Alkimos Beach and Alkimos Vista following a competitive tender process. The contract will provide employment for Indigenous people, local businesses and people with disability. This includes at least four new jobs for Aboriginal apprentices in construction, electrical, plumbing and painting services, and more than five training and employment opportunities for people with disability. Lendlease and DevelopmentWA are proud to support such a great partnership and we hope that this sets a precedent in social procurement and demonstrates that working alongside Aboriginal and Disability enterprises creates shared success for all.
