Sunday fun day with Scouts Queensland! Climbing walls, catapults, obstacle courses and solar powered cars… they sure had it all at the Scouts Queensland Community Fun Day in June! A fantastic opportunity for anyone and everyone to enjoy an exciting day of interactive games and activities, the event was designed to give people the opportunity to learn more about Springfield Scout Group with information sessions and historical displays running throughout the day. Held at Spring Mountain State School, the event also included a barbecue organised by the hardworking Spring Mountain State School P&C committee. Geoff Doo, Deputy Chief Commissioner (Development) of The Scout Association of Australia’s Queensland Branch, said the event was a huge success! “We had a great turnout for the event with approximately 750 people attending,” Geoff said. “We received great feedback from the community which has resulted in many people expressing interest in getting the Springfield Scout Group up and running.” The event was supported by the Springfield Rise Community Grants Program. The funds were well spent on a climbing wall, amenities, and COVID-19 safety measures including hand sanitiser. The grant also allowed Springfield Scout Group to promote the event by designing and printing flyers to distribute around the community! To find out how to get involved in joining the new Scout Group in Springfield, visit www.facebook.com/SpringfieldScouts We had a great time welcoming representatives from the Springfield Police Division Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) to the recent ‘Meet Your Neighbours’ event! The group’s goal is to reduce crime rates and improve community safety by encouraging community members and local groups to work collaboratively. Until recently, the group was known as the Redbank Plains Neighbourhood Watch but has since expanded to include Springfield after receiving interest from the community. Area Coordinator Jon Janetzki said he would love to see more people at their bi-monthly meetings. “We get around 10 to 15 people, but we are encouraging more people to attend. We had a few people apply to be members after we attended the Springfield Rise ‘Meet Your Neighbours’ event which was great to see,” Jon said. Residents can get involved in the group by attending meetings, ‘liking’ the Springfield Police Division Neighbourhood Watch Facebook page, and joining the dedicated Facebook group by the same name. You can also apply to become a member of the group which allows you to have a more active role in the community. Even if you’re not interested in being part of the group, Jon says that everyone plays an important role in helping make the community as safe as possible. “Our advice is to be aware of your surroundings, bring anything of concern to our attention, or call the police if you see anything suspicious.” To get involved, attend the next meeting at 7pm on Monday 16 August at Redbank Plains Community Centre. www.facebook.com/SPDNHW Watchful eyes keep Springfield community safe Springfield Police Station Officer in Charge Snr Sgt Ben MacKenzie with Jon Janetzki NHW Area Coordinator Scouts held a Community Fun Day in June and hope to start a new Springfield group soon
