Barangaroo South Sustainability Report 2021 - 2023
Significant Reduction in Embodied Carbon Emissions at One Sydney Harbour One Sydney Harbour utilises a range of alternative materials and initiatives to surpass the project’s embodied carbon reduction target. Our commitment to environmental responsibility in the construction of One Sydney Harbour (OSH) continues to yield significant sustainable achievements. We collaborated with suppliers and sub-contractors who were aligned to our Mission Zero ambitions. Our approach is to reduce absolute carbon intensity of key materials such as concrete, steel and aluminium by exploring innovative technologies. We then offset the remaining embodied carbon emissions associated with reinforcement steel for all three towers and basement, as well as concrete for Residences Two (R2), Watermans Residence (R3) and the basement, using third-party certified offsets. We are targeting significant embodied carbon reductions at One Sydney Harbour and are on track to surpassing our minimum target of 20 per cent embodied carbon reduction, with over 30 per cent reduction currently estimated for Residences One (R1). Capitalising on lessons learned at R1, a greater than 35 per cent reduction is estimated for R2 and more than 50 per cent reduction for R3 (taking carbon offsets into account). These metrics are calculated by modelling our buildings against a reference case defined by Green Star Design and As-Built v1.1 and could be subject to change pending final assessment at practical completion. 24 SHAPING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE Sustainability Report 2020–21 Barangaroo South
